Now...About Your Tooth Brushing
Your Tooth Brushing Responsibility
So When and How should you clean your teeth during
orthodontic treatment?
When:
If possible, within 5 minutes after you eat as
follows.
How:
- First, brush back and forth across...between the wires
and gums on the upper and lower to loosen the food particles
- Next, brush correctly as if you had no brackets on.
A. Start on the outside of the uppers with the bristles
at a 45 degree angle towards the gum, or shealf as we have
referred to, and scrub with a circular motion two or three
teeth at a time using ten strokes, then move on.
B. Next, do the same on the inner surface of the
upper teeth.
C. then go to the outside of the lower teeth and
repeat the process. Remember, direct the brush at an angle
toward the gum or shelf area.
D. Finally, rinse your mouth and toothbrush.
- LOOK IN A MIRROR to see if you have missed any places.
Chack the little half moon space between the molar tubes
at the back of the mouth and the gums.
When finished, your teeth, brackets, and wires should be
free of any food particles and that ugly white coating called
plaque.
Your braces should look clean and shiny.
It's up to you!
TO:
- Brush after eating and keep that little shelf clean.
Remember, that place between your braces and your gums makes
an easy trap for food. If you fail to get the teeth clean
and exercise the gums, the gums tend to swell and make it
even more difficult to clean.
- Floss at least once daily
